An excellent burr walnut bookcase in the Queen Anne style. Of very good construction in solid walnut and attractive burr walnut veneers onto a solid oak carcas. Of tall and slender proportions and with a domed top. The top section with a single glazed door which opens to access a painted and interior fitted with adjustable shelves. Superior Quality Inlaid Mahogany Revolving Bookcase
A superb quality Edwardian period inlaid mahogany revolving bookcase. Whilst not stamped, this bookcase was almost certainly originally made by Maple and Co of London. Of fine construction in a dense grade of mahogany and decorated with cross banding, chequer banding and stringing in boxwood. The top further embellished with an inlaid central fan motif. Revolving freely on an iron clad base which terminates in its original brass and ceramic castors. Offered for sale in excellent original condition, with a great colour and patina, ready to go straight into the home.

A splendid pair of William IV bookcases. Made from fine quality solid mahogany timber, now with a warm depth of colour and patina. They have been adapted from a larger piece of furniture. Each bookcase of good , sizeable, proportions , each having a set of 3 adjustable shelves. The upper freezes are decorated with attractive brass mounts, and the bookcases stand true on strong plinths.

French Mahogany Brass Inlaid Bookcase
A splendid French mahogany glazed bookcase of compact proportions from the Empire period. Of good construction in solid mahogany and mahogany veneers onto a solid oak carcas. The bookcase is decorated throughout with inset brass work (moldings and flutings) which is very attractive to the eye. The glazed door (lockable, key supplied) opens to access a display space with 2 adjustable shelves. The door is presently fitted with its original pleated material behind the glass but this could be removed if desired. The top is inset with a white marble which is surrounded by a brass gallery. We have had it sympathetically repolsihed to a very high standard in our workshops. Decorated with inlaid stringing throughout. The top section with 2 glazed doors (lockable, key supplied) which open to access a shelved interior. The three shelves are adjustable, The top is surmounted with a cushioned freeze with Greek-key dentil moldings. The base section has two drawers and stands on long, elegant cabriole legs. The legs are united by a lovely shaped under-stretcher, We have had this charming bookcase cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Inlaid Mahogany Revolving Bookcase by Maple and Co
A fine quality revolving bookcase by the renowned firm of Maple and Co. Made from a very good grade of solid mahogany timber and decorated with inlaid detailing and attractive veneers. The top is inlaid with a central circular panel and checker-banding to the edge. This checker banding is repeated on the skirt at the bottom of the bookcase. This lovely bookcase is offered for sale in excellent original condition. It revolves freely and stands squarely. A very good quality bookcase ready to go straight into the home.

Maple & Co was established by John Maple, a shopkeeper from Horley, Surrey, who later opened a furniture shop in Tottenham Court Road. However it was his son, John Blundell Maple , who made Maples & Co a success. With exceptional business skills, John B. Maple took over the company while still a young man. By the 1880s they were the largest furniture store in the world, exported their fine furniture to every continent.
Maples manufactured their luxury furniture entirely in-house, at a huge modern complex. A timber importer and furniture exporter, they landed prestigious contracts furnishing fine houses, hotels, embassies and palaces in Europe; among them Tsar Nicholas’s Winter Palace and the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna . With his own empire established, John Blundell Maple achieved further fame in politics and horseracing – some lines, such as the Atherstoke antique cabinet, having racing connections in the titles.
Never compromising on quality, Maples produced a huge catalogue of fine furniture, covering every avenue of interior design. A Maples & Co sale today would cover everything from Chippendale Revival antique dining chairs , to Aesthetic style carved oak dressers, to Art Nouveau tulip carved antique dining tables – all from the same catalogue.
The exclusivity and high quality of craftsmanship of Maples’ antique cabinets, dining suites and bedroom furniture made them highly popular with Britain’s social elite. Today, they appeal to anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship.
