Burr Walnut Side Table
An elegant burr walnut side table in the queen Anne style. Of very good construction in solid walnut with attractive burr walnut veneers. Of serpentine fronted for with a single drawer to the freeze. The top cross banded with feather and dart inlay. All standing on long , elegant cabriole legs with carved shell motifs to the knees and terminating in pad feet. This table would sit well within a number of different room scenarios within the modern home, eg, living room, dining room, hallway etc. Offered for sale in excellent condition, ready to go straight into the home.

Burr Walnut Side Table by Maple an Co
An excellent quality side table by the renowned makers , Maple and Co. Of very good construction in the Queen Anne style. Made from solid walnut and stunning burr walnut veneers, with solid oak drawer linings. This lovely table could function as a dressing table, writing table or side table. The shaped top is cross banded and the drawer fronts have feather banding inlay to their edges. There is an arrangement of one long central drawer flanked by 4 shorter drawers, all fitted with their original brass handles. The table stands on strong, elegant cabriole legs which terminate in pad feet. We have had this table sympathetically repolished to a very high standard and it is now offered for sale in excellent condition, with a great colour and patina.

Maple & Co was established by John Maple, a shopkeeper from Horley, Surrey, who later opened a furniture shop in Tottenham Court Road. However it was his son, John Blundell Maple , who made Maples & Co a success. With exceptional business skills, John B. Maple took over the company while still a young man. By the 1880s they were the largest furniture store in the world, exported their fine furniture to every continent.
Maples manufactured their luxury furniture entirely in-house, at a huge modern complex. A timber importer and furniture exporter, they landed prestigious contracts furnishing fine houses, hotels, embassies and palaces in Europe; among them Tsar Nicholas’s Winter Palace and the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna . With his own empire established, John Blundell Maple achieved further fame in politics and horseracing – some lines, such as the Atherstoke antique cabinet, having racing connections in the titles.
Never compromising on quality, Maples produced a huge catalogue of fine furniture, covering every avenue of interior design. Burr Walnut Sideboard
A very good burr walnut sideboard dating from the 1920's. Very well made in solid walnut with attractive burr walnut veneers. There are a pair of drawers sitting over a pair of cupboard doors. The left hand drawer has a fitted cutlery tray and the cupboard doors open to reveal a shelved storage space. To the top there is a small up-stand and the whole sideboard stands on bun feet. Fitted with its original brass hardware and with decorative strap-work hinges. Sympathetically refinished in our workshops and now offered for sale in excellent condition with a nice mellow colour and patina. Ready to go straight into the home, an attractive and very practical piece of furniture.

The top is surmounted by an upstand to the rear with a central carved crest. The main body of the sideboard has a pair of end cupboards flanking two , long, central drawers. The cupboards are lockable (key supplied) and open to access shelved interiors. The drawers are fitted with their charming original brass swan-neck handles and the top drawer is compartmentalised for cutlery. The whole sideboard stands on elegant cabriole legs with carved shell decorations to the knees. We have had this item sympathetically repolished to a very high standard . James Shoolbred & Co
The name of James Shoolbred & Co is highly respected among admirers of Aesthetic Movement furniture. Their antique desks, Victorian dining chairs and antique marquetry furniture were produced for wealthy households up to 1931. A particularly fine example of James Shoolbred antique marquetry furniture – an ornate piano by designer Henry Batley – is on display at the V & A museum, London.

Established in the 1820s, James Shoolbred’s Tottenham Court Road company began life as a drapers. It began supplying textiles to the furniture trade, and expanded into the stores either side, branching into interior design. By the 1870s, the company was designing and manufacturing its own furniture.

A major factor of James Shoolbred’s success was their detailed catalogues, which were published from around 1873. Configured to showcase the company’s designs beyond the confines of London, they made Shoolbred an overnight success.

In the 1880s the firm moved to larger premises. Imaginatively laid out, with detailed room schemes showing off the company’s latest furniture and textile designs, it became an unmitigated success.

Although James Shoolbred & Co specialised in furniture of the Aesthetic Movement they encompassed all the fashionable trends of the time, from the motifs and patterns of Japanese design in their antique marquetry furniture, to Art Nouveau and gothic influences in their antique desks and Victorian dining chairs.

A charming tripod table made from solid walnut and lovely burr walnut veneers to the top. The lobbed top is really eye-catching, and is surrounded by thumb-nail mouldings.
