A superb quality inlaid mahogany bookcase by Edwards and Roberts of London. Late 19th century and of fine construction in solid mahogany and attractive mahogany veneers. Embellished with boxwood stringing and satinwood banding throughout. With floral inlaid detailing to the freeze and with profuse floral marquetry inlaid panels to the cupboard doors. The bookcase top with a pair of glazed doors which open to access an interior with adjustable shelving. The top section is surmounted by a broken arch swan neck pediment in open fretwork. The bottom section with a pair of cupboard doors which open to reveal an interior with adjustable shelving. All doors are lockable (keys supplied). Both bottom and top sections with canted corners. Sympathetically refinished in our workshops to a very high standard. Now offered for sale in excellent condition with a rich colour and patina. Splits into two sections for ease of installation. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century.
